Kim Simons, Executive Director of the Rhode Island Coalition to End Homelessness, ran the numbers. When she looked into the system, there were three beds available in Newport and three pending referrals, meaning those beds may soon be taken, and two beds available in Providence designated only for "transitional age youth."

Note that the Coordinated Entry System (CES) is a dynamic system that is constantly shifting, but no shift is possible in the system that will allow it to accommodate the 674 people now waiting for shelter in Rhode Island.

“Even if we count these beds, the Governor apparently has no idea what he is talking about,” said Simmons. “He doesn’t realize that even if he was accurate, how does that address the over 600 individuals who still need beds?”

McKee - is he the worst governor in RI history? Considering that nobody voted for this clown, I'd say yes. And of course, there are no viable candidates to replace him, so we'll probably end up with a MAGA loving Republican.

And Valicenti being described as cruel and ignorant is spot on!

First of all, I only see Gene on TV on Sundays. I don't see what you're seeing. He's not wrong - Echo is a mess. It was a round about way to challenge McKee.

Anyway since there are 45 beds at Echo, are they livable? Are there beds, heat, and electric that are operable? The homeless don't care if the streets are paved. In R.I., the streets are crap anyway and they're not lined with gold. I need to get my car aligned.

Per McKee, there are beds. What he didn't say is they're not usable. If he thinks he's cagey, he's not. We aren't stupid.

Between Charlesgate and Crossroads, neither of which is operable, is 376 beds. That doesn't begin to cover the numbers. He needs to get on the stick and start working on more now. This situation isn't going to get better with Trump in office. There will be cuts - lots of them - and they will be the most vulnerable. President not elected Musk back in October said that the word 'homeless' is a 'lie' and a 'propaganda' word.

Harrington Hall is near me. I see the homeless trying to get there early to stand in line. The doors close either at 5 or 7 PM. Not everybody gets in since it can only hold so many.

I really believe that McKee is a DINO. He lies, stalls and never follows through. He can deny but we can fact-check.

There is a well to do former Mayor who owns plenty of property. He must have a couple of empty buildings that can be used. He can write it off as a charitable contribution.

Our leaders need a fire lit under them. Maybe we can round them up and force them to sleep outside some cold night.

Instead of Hope, the state motto should be Despair.

The governor is a fool

I just wrote the mayor, as if that'll do any good.

Just my opinion since I don't live in Providence but Smiley needs to confront McKee. Being homeless isn't a Providence problem, it's a state problem.

"I'm told". It is time someone went out and tried living in someone else's shoes. Then perhaps there would be a shred of compassion.

Governor you are in over your head. You operate and speak as if your electorate is stupid, gullible and possibly even disinterested. You seem to think disingenuousness is some sort of high art. You’re a mediocre public servant devoted to serving your self interests. Little Rhody needs an INTELLIGENT governor with true and demonstrable leadership skills who operates from a position of empathy, compassion, and integrity. Step aside. You are not fit.
