There's a rally against the Trump/Musk illegal takeover of the Federal Government at the RI State House on Saturday
"This is a constitutional crisis, with lawless billionaires led by Musk brazenly violating both Judicial and Legislative rules."
Members of the public, community leaders, and State and local elected officials will demonstrate outside the Rhode Island State House at 2:30 p.m. on Saturday to call on Rhode Island’s federal delegation and State officials to use every tool at their disposal to protect Rhode Islanders from Elon Musk’s illegal takeover of the Federal Government.
Indivisible RI organizes the event in collaboration with Climate Action RI, RI Working Families Party, Reclaim RI, Black Lives Matter RI PAC, and the Rhode Island Democratic Women’s Caucus. Confirmed speakers include Rhode Island Representatives Megan Cotter, David Morales, and Cherie Cruz; Senator Tiara Mack, Jackie Anderson, Chair of the RI Democratic Women’s Caucus; former employee of the United States Department of Energy Wesley Garner, and Aseem Rastogi, Chair of Indivisible Rhode Island.
The United States District Court of Rhode Island ruled that Elon Musk is not complying with a court order to unfreeze over $125 in Rhode Island funds and other legally mandated funding across the country. This is a constitutional crisis, with lawless billionaires led by Musk brazenly violating both Judicial and Legislative rules.
This unchecked power puts all Rhode Islanders in danger. Corruption and greed threaten Social Security, Medicare, and societal rules that keep communities and individuals safe.
We need our Democratic leaders to use their power to protect us. On February 8, Indivisible RI brought together over 1,000 people in protest, and as the urgency has grown, this event will be larger.
As part of this event, Indivisible also asks people to make monetary donations and/or bring food donations for the Rhode Island Food Bank. The sponsoring organizations aim to assist Rhode Islanders struggling with Trump/Musk-inflicted inflation and rising food prices - 40% of Rhode Islanders are food insecure, and every bit helps. As Rhode Island struggles with cuts for crucial services such as the Rhode Island Food Bank at the State and federal level, unity to protect all Rhode Islanders from these unlawful cuts by the billionaire class is paramount. Donations can be provided here.
Thank you, Steve. The groups sponsoring these demonstrations, which are important, might try to figure out how to publicize them more widely. I know three other people who are fairly well plugged in (much better than I am), who are frustrated because they find out last minute. I found out about the last one from a blog I check occasionally in Florida, because it was nation-wide. I wish I had something useful to suggest, but if everyone who reads this could pass it on, and if you belong to sponsoring groups ask if they can publicize these earlier and more widely. . . .
