The temporary warming center will be located at the DaVinci Center, 470 Charles Street, and will be open Monday, January 20, and Tuesday, January 21, from 7 pm to 7 am.
Better than nothing, but with temps maybe below 20° Mon and Tuesdays during the day, libraries closed Monday, and shelters open 7pm to 7am, not very helpful!
The Pawtucket Police Department is also open 24/7 for warming. The Pawtucket public library, although closed on Monday, is also a warming center and is open on Sundays.
There's so many public buildings that ought to be open to those in need -- sad these buildings are heated 27/7 and not occupied at night. Of course volunteer staff is needed to be there too along with other important needs. But we should be making it happen! I'll volunteer!!!
I agree with Kathy. I can't volunteer and I know that we ask so much of those that do (God bless them). My personal opinion is to open on Sunday afternoon. As to opening at 7PM, it's dark and will be even colder. They really should be open earlier (IMO).
I'm a bit surprised that warming centers don't have coffee urns. I would suggest masks since there's so much going around. CVS was giving them away during the pandemic. If places like that wanted to make some 'good neighbor' points, masks, wipes, and sanitizer would help.
Still no empty buildings that the 'landowners' want to give up, I see.
