"It is outrageous that someone can face jail time for stealing a television from the store, but not for stealing wages worth far more than a television out of a worker’s pocket."
When I worked as an adjunct in a MA community college, I was paid six times a year (working 9-1/2 months). If I was lucky enough to be paid a seventh time, for a summer course, I received the pay three weeks after the course ended. I put up a sign in my office with quotations from the Jewish Bible:
"You shall not leave [with you] the payment of a worker overnight until the morning.," and "On his day you should give his wages, the sun should not set on it, because he is a poor man and his life depends on it…"
Maybe that's what we need in our classrooms instead of someone's mangled version of the Ten Commandments.
This could aptly apply to the situation in the Warwick DPW, where the Director now on his second month of “medical leave” gave overtime hours to his brother instead of others perhaps. Wouldn’t that be a great story to write!
seems like an excellent idea for legislation. But the issue also shows how workers need unions to protect from abuse rather than relying on possible government action

Thank you, Rep. Magaziner!
I love this!
