The youth have ALWAYS LED the path forward in progressing. Sadly, institutions - of every kind- play performative politics and “allow” them to have a voice until they decide to pull the rug, and their voice.
I have a contrary opinion that "ethnic studies" is intrinsically needlessly divisive, who decides which "ethnic groups" are studied and how, what about kids with multiple backgrounds....in CA it has led to much conflict. Better to integrate it into regular classes in history, literature, civics etc and also better to emphasize we are all Americans

Kudos to the students for taking a stand, and being unwilling to be used by the Mayor in this non-process to nowhere. Very sad!
