Truth to power! We need this kind of journalism throughout the state. The absence of public oversight and open discussion are responsible for conditions where authoritarianism thrives.
Governor should fire Alviti. But what we are also seeing is a man in over his head. Being governor is beyond his capabilities and he flounders when ever the hard stuff happens. maybe not the simple mechanics like calling in theDOT to fix DOT stuff, but the management of information and giving the public more information and a clear picture of why. And his cronies are not the most capable bunch.
This incident didn't make me loose my faith in leadership of this state. I never had any. All of this must be repeated again and again. Thanks for that Steve.
Howard Zinn wrote the final verdict about the American electoral system:
"It was the new politics of ambiguity-speaking for the lower and middle classes to get their support in times of rapid growth and potential turmoil. The two-party system came into its own in this time. To give people a choice between two different parties and allow them, in a period of rebellion, to choose the slightly more democratic one was an ingenious mode of control. Like so much in the American system, it was not devilishly contrived by some master plotters; it developed naturally out of the needs of the situation." Increasingly our Governor sounds somewhat unhinged. Rhode Island on the whole has a rather robust history of elected officials similarly falling down a rabbit hole. Icky to say the least.
Governor McKee should fire Peter Alviti. Given McKee's behavior, I assume he is not going to run for office again. Since 2015 RI highway system has been ranked among the worse in the country, but the Governor tells us what a great job he Alviti are doing The problem with the bridge that is being addressed now was reported in 2020.
Spot on. Too dumb is exactly right. This fool has always struck me as a deer in the headlights. He's not ready for prime time, and when under any kind of pressure shows his incompetence and lashes out at reporters, like Crandall, who ask legitimate, important questions.

We need a recall, this guy cannot continue to destroy RI for another 2 years.

We deserve so much better than 'Lieutenant' Dan.
