Hey Johnston can seemingly do whatever it wants in terms of public meetings.. what I find interesting is is that the fire chief who kept us out in the invenergy case is the same fire chief who prevented the go ahead for the pallet shelters! When we told him then he had to change the venue he acted like we were from Mars. Sick folks.

Mary - If you get notice of another meeting, demand (not ask) that it be held in the high school (assuming it has an auditorium or a large cafeteria).

Good luck!

Johnston continues to demonstrate that it is a fascist dictatorship. holding a hearing in a room too small is insane. preventing testimony is absurd. And stealing land for police instead of housing has to be among the stupidest things ever heard, though coming from the Polisena crime family sounds just about like business as usual. AFU

It’s crazy to have children. There is no place affordable. And no places where affordable homes will be built.

Thanks for your reporting. This is outrageous. The state needs to intervene.

This is disgusting. Pingitore should be removed from the Planning Board for his idiotic comment, and it’s apparent the fix was in to stop this project by Polisena. Open meeting laws were skirted if not broken. I urge everyone to email the Attorney General and complain about these violations. Thank you Steve for this article and for providing the email for us to file our complaint with.

It's nice to see that nepotism is alive and well in Johnston. Did the residents think that anything was going to change?

If the money was a bond, designated for a school, is it now a null and void bond? The voters thought they voted for a new school, not a City complex. Polisena can take the land by eminent domain but can he legally move the money??

Another question - if the voters approved a new school bond but it's now determined that it only needs renovations, it's a waste of money and the bond was fraudulently presented to the voters.

Despite the horror show of Cranston, meetings are posted on the web site's City Calendar. The agenda is a click away and comes up along with a Zoom code. If I can do it, anybody can!

When the Budlong Pool was still a viable hope, the City knew it would get a turnout. The meeting was held in the Cranston East auditorium. They did their presentation and then took questions. There was a podium and mic set up on the floor. People had 2-3 minutes to speak.

Now I live right by the Pool. Every day I sit here and listen to the bulldozers pulling up the cement.

The City will say that it gave us a fair shake and allowed input. Too bad that they didn't listen.

Hizzoner (Hopkins) got the pool he wanted - no other design was shown. Hizzoner hasn't been seen or heard from since he won re-election on Nov. 5th. We have our own dictator.

I remember the Invenergy mtg debacle well. Same exact playbook. Stack the attendees well before mtg time. Get harassed by the Fire Chief. Very hostile officials and participants. Truly hellish for a public event. Johnston has a bad rep for a reason. They do exactly what they want and are not accountable to any laws except their own. Kinda like the mafia, eh?

Sally, this is the way our State is run. I worked on McCoy. Went to a hearing at the State House which was stacked with gig workers and investors. The rooms are very small. They took questions from the workers since they wore orange shirts & easily identified and they knew the players. I couldn't get into the room - it was full. As some folks left, I saw some seats and was strong-armed from getting in. I'm short so I slipped under his arm.

This seems to be standard procedure - hold a hearing in a tiny room and only let certain people in. Things never change.

Johnston: blocking affordable housing, violating open meetings law, blocking the bike path extension, supporting an unwanted new natural gas plant in another town, giving tax breaks to lure Citizens Bank out of the metro area to their woods, and voting for vile Trump 3 times - makes me not to want to shop there though it is a neighboring town
