"These cuts will impact a lot more than the shelter beds we have currently. Over 1000 of them stand to be lost. Additionally, we’re losing resources that prevent people from becoming homeless."
Thank you all who showed up and spoke up. It is delusional to think that our homeless crisis of last year will improve without more funding. It will be worse with these cuts and people will die!
My heart breaks for these people. It's always one step forward and two steps behind. It seems like RI operates that way, too. The worst thing is Trump with his tariffs, cuts, and all of his other crap. Let's not forget that he wants the States to take over a lot of things. Budgets are done. If he does this now, every state is screwed. I doubt that any state is about to take on Medicaid, education or anything else on his hit list. That's why we pay taxes and why we split the bill. I'm all for withholding any tax money from the Feds. I may go to jail but I'll have a roof, 3 squares, and no bills to pay.
I think what really ticks me off are people like Trump and Musk. Many of the wealthy (Bill Gates for example) have charitable foundations or a particular cause they sponsor. Not those two!! They contribute nothing, nada, zilch.
As these cuts come, all of us will be impacted in some way. We only have so much money. Prices are already going up. Will we be able to contribute anything to keep these shelters open? Maybe but not as much. I don't go out often. When I do, it seems like I see more and more people with bags or backpacks heading toward downtown. That's not living. It's surviving. That isn't what America is. That's not who we are.
Thank you Steve -- it's great to see this turnout -- which I hope turns into increased funding. Great to see Rep Morales and others there too.

Me - I just keep praying. God bless all of us.
Lesley- Right on! Thank you! Until RI figures out how to take care of the least of us, the state wil never have economic success.
Thank you for getting this very important information out.
