Woonsocket Mayor Lisa Baldelli-Hunt resigns
"I am hereby resigning my office as Mayor of the City of Woonsocket, effective immediately."
Woonsocket Mayor Lisa Baldell-Hunt resigned today, citing health concerns. City Council President Christopher Beauchamp was sworn in as Mayor.
To the citizens of Woonsocket,
As you may be aware, I experienced some serious health concerns back in April of this year. In the months since then I have done my best to continue the work I was elected to do and have accomplished for the past 10 years here in our beloved City. Unfortunately, my health issues have not resolved as I had hoped and the effects on me, as well as my family, have impacted my ability to continue to move the City forward.
The time has come for me to address my health and the well-being of my family. As much as I love the City of Woonsocket and all of you, I must reorder my priorities to suit the current circumstances. For the first time in my decade of service to the City, my health and my family must come first.
I am proud of the work we have done in our City over the past 10 years and I am ever so grateful to my incredibly talented team who have committed themselves to the countless projects and undertakings that we have accomplished in our City. Just as importantly, to the many friends and supporters who made it possible for me and our dedicated staff to achieve so much in that time. I have nothing but admiration and gratitude for all of those who have worked tirelessly to achieve our goals.
I have no doubt that the new leadership and members of the City Council will continue to guide the City forward and continue its success to complete the many projects we have initiated. I wish all of you the best for your future and the future of our great City.
With that, I am hereby resigning my office as Mayor of the City of Woonsocket, effective immediately.
Take care of yourself and may God bless all of you and the City of Woonsocket.
