Jackie Anderson announces her campaign for Warwick City Council
“I am hopeful I can take my managerial and practical experience to the City Council,” said Anderson.
From a press release:
Jackie Anderson has announced her candidacy for the Warwick City Council, Ward 7. Council President Stephen McAllister currently holds that seat.
“Warwick has always been my home,” said Anderson. “I have a great desire to help my community, and when the seat became available, I felt it was a great way for me to step up and help my neighbors.”
Anderson, 40, became politically active during her advocacy work which included passing the Equality in Abortion Coverage Act. Anderson previously ran for Rhode Island State Representative in 2022.
Jackie is the Chair of the Rhode Island Democratic Women's Caucus. She also serves on the boards of the non-profit domestic violence organization Nora’s Haven, and also on The Womxn Project’s Education Fund which provides reproductive health advocacy.
“As a nurse, I’ve dedicated my life to helping people,” said Anderson. “I know what it’s like to be at your worst moments and rely on the care of others. I believe this empathy for others will help guide me in serving the people of Ward 7 and the entire city of Warwick.”
Anderson grew up in Warwick and has lived here most of her life. She has lived in Ward 7 for over 13 years. She graduated from Warwick Veterans Memorial High School in 2002, attended St. Joseph’s School of Nursing, and completed her studies in 2011 as President of her class.
Jackie and her husband Michael are raising her two sons, Collin and Bradley, along with their three dogs, Stevie, Winston, and Cece. She is employed full-time as a Nursing Supervisor and sings for the Nathaniel Johnstone Band.
“I am hopeful I can take my managerial and practical experience to the City Council,” said Anderson. “Working in nursing leadership, I have managed a staff of over 150, which requires flexibility and the ability to develop solutions in a high-stress environment.
“Our city is making good progress in solving several difficult challenges and I would like to work on implementing further improvements,” Anderson continued. “This includes making sure that people can afford to live here by building more affordable housing, to make sure those homes are in a city that protects its shores and the environment, and that our children have the best schools available.”
Former State Senator Jeanine Calkin expressed enthusiasm for Anderson’s candidacy.
“I have known Jackie for several years now and appreciate her enthusiasm and dedication to working to help those around her,” said Senator Calkin. “She is tireless in her advocacy and standing up for those who don’t have a voice for themselves. She is steadfast in her beliefs and can work towards a consensus that makes progress on the issues.”
